International Law Weekend

Hypocrisy and Double Standards in International Law

Hypocrisy and Double Standards in International Law convened scholars to clarify what hypocrisy and double standards mean in international legal practice and discourse, and to assess when such claims promote compliance versus when they devolve into deflection. The discussion explored the sources and consequences of perceived inconsistency, including effects on institutional legitimacy and Global South engagement across domains such as human rights, trade and investment, and cyber diplomacy.
