Report of the Ottawa Roundtable on International Law & Double Standards

The Ottawa Roundtable Report captures the main themes and questions that emerged from an invitation-only roundtable hosted by the University of Ottawa’s Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) on 9 November 2024. It distills an interdisciplinary discussion of how perceived and actual double standards, as well as related dynamics such as hypocrisy and whataboutism, shape the practice, perception, and legitimacy of international law across various fields including human rights, trade, humanitarian law, and international criminal law.
